Centre Resources & Equipment

At each centre we will have the following:

  • A log book to register all people present during an emergency
  • A map of our area for physical coordination of emergency efforts
  • A radio to listen for community broadcasts
  • A first aid kit
  • A defibrillator (AED)
  • A generator and fuel
  • Shovels and crowbars
  • Chainsaw
  • Tarpaulins
  • Cooking equipment
  • Starlink internet connection
  • Emergency Local Resource List
  • Vulnerable People List

Emergency Local Resource List

Each centre will hold a copy of the registered resources of our local area, including:

  • Chainsaws
  • 4-wheel drive vehicles
  • Tractors
  • Generators
  • Emergency skills such as builders, nurses, doctors, etc.

Notable Resource: We have identified an ICU nurse with 30 years experience at Auckland Hospital living on our road.

Pre-Stocked Supplies

We will have pre-stocked food (dry/non-perishable) and basic equipment kits at each location so they do not need to be purchased at the time of an emergency.

Vulnerable People List

Each centre will hold a confidential list of vulnerable people that will need additional support due to their personal circumstances, such as:

  • Medical machines
  • Medical conditions
  • Disability
  • Mental health issues
  • Isolation

The list will include their address and contact information. Our local emergency response will prioritise reaching out to these people immediately to ensure they receive the support they need.

Emergency Response Centres Policies

Behaviour & Safety Standards:

  • Animals are not allowed in the main buildings, sleeping areas, or food preparation areas
  • Alcohol free onsite
  • Intoxicated people are not allowed into common shared areas
  • Develop a security roster system at each location as the emergency unfolds
  • Ensure there is a balance of male and female presence across people running each response centre, especially in security
  • If there is a child with no adult supervision or a vulnerable person attending, allocate an adult to look after them at all times

Resource Funding

The Topuni Community Response Committee received initial funding from the Red Cross and Kaipara District Council. We will look for further funding for future events and required equipment.

Community Gatherings

As a committee we will be holding community gatherings and inviting every person living in our area to attend. These events are a chance to:

  • Meet everyone in the community
  • Participate in the event
  • Learn about what we have organised
  • Understand what resources are available to the community

Emergency Response Plan Review

As a committee we will review this Community Response Plan approximately every 6 months.

Next Review: June 2026
